Official Schedule

5/10/02 -

As you know, Joe Lehm and I have been trying to sort out other options in Albuquerque for the second U.S. event. Unfortunately, most of the alternate roads in the Albuquerque area are also being affected by this federally mandated fire prevention policy. As a result, EDI is seeking an alternate venue just outside of Phoenix, AZ. I have only begun the process of applying for permits from the forest service, highway department, and county agencies. I will update everyone with any progress on this venue.

EDI - New Mexico
...
New Mexico is scheduled for June 22nd and 23rd. Joe Lehm, who has been helping us with this event, was notified last week that due to the severe drought in New Mexico, the state has recently fallen under a federal mandate to shut down all the state and national forests. This is in an effort to prevent fires.

Our race course is on a road that leads into a state park, and will also be closed down. In the past, this type of road closure has lasted up to six weeks. Right now we have no way of knowing if the race course will be reopened in time for our event.

Needless to say, we are working furiously to try and obtain the necessary permits for an alternate road in Albuquerque. We will keep you all informed with any developments (ie sudden rain, an approval for an alternate venue, etc). We suggest that you hold off on purchasing plane tickets for the New Mexico event if you haven't already done so. If you have already purchased tickets, please be advised that our other option for a course is also located close to the Albuquerque airport. We hope to have a clearer idea of what our options are by the end of this week. We apologize for any inconvenience, and invite you all to pray/dance for rain.

The San Diego event at Barret Junction has been confirmed for April 27th and 28th. It will be the first qualifier for the 2002 Gravity Games. This race will be a part of our regular season, and will count toward the 2002 point series. The criteria for Gravity Games qualification will be altered slightly as a result of this addition. I will post qualifying criteria no later than Friday, March 29th.

If you would like to attend the San Diego race, please be aware that our entry fees have increased since last season. Typically, EDIís yearly loss has not exceeded $5,000. Due to the poor turnout, the costs of obtaining private road permits, and increased operational expenses, EDIís loss in 2001 increased to over $20,000. As a result, we will be increasing entry fees. The amateur class will increase from $100 to $150. The professional class entry fee will be increased to $200 for the race, with $50 of the fees going toward a prize purse. Each additional discipline for the professional class will be $150, with $50 going toward the purse. Each additional discipline for amateur class will be $100. Membership fees will remain $100 per member, regardless of class status.

I will be posting information regarding the specifics of the event before the end of the week. If anyone would like to donate product to the raffle benefiting adults with disabilities, please let me know as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 858-272-3095, M-F 8:00AM - 4:00PM. PT
Sincerely,
Grace

EDI is currently working on securing an event at Barret Junction, California on April 27th-28th. Although these dates are still tentative, we wanted to give you all some lead time since this will be the first official race of our 2002 series, and will be used as a qualifier for the 2002 Gravity Games. We hope to confirm these dates no later than Monday, March 25th. I will keep you all posted and provide you with information on lodging, entry fees, etc.

We would like to hold a raffle at this event to benefit individuals with disabilities. Anyone interested in donating product for the raffle can contact me at 858-272-3095. For more info on the organization, go to www.sdrc.org

Due to a conflict with the Gravity Games dates, EDI has been forced to postpone the Canastota, New York race. It will take place on August 10th and 11th. As a reminder, the Gravity Games downhill events will take place on July 27th and 28th. Our updated schedule is as follows.

EDI 2002 Updated Schedule As of 2/18/02

2/14/02
Gravity Games has officially named Cleveland as the host city for this year's competition. The events will take place from July 27th - August 4th, with the downhill events taking place on July 27th and 28th. As a result, EDI will need to make some changes to its schedule. At this time, it looks as though our races in Maryhill, Washington and Canastota, New York will be the only two races affected. We are currently working with our permit holders there to see when we can reschedule these events.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. I will post our updated schedule as soon as possible. If I can answer any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Grace
