Dave's Street Luge Event Information

Dear Racers,

We understand that many of you are eager to receive information regarding EDI’s 2003 race season.

We have been diligently working with several insurance companies in the hopes of retaining rates comparable to the policy that covered us during the 2001-2002 seasons.

Unfortunately, the cost of event insurance has rapidly risen since September 11th, 2001. That general increase, coupled with the claim issued by a spectator at the Pike’s Peak 2001 event, has increased our cost by a little over 315% per event. Specifically, our insurance has increased to $3500 per event.

As you know, the Gravity Games downhill events will not be held in 2003, but will return in 2004.
EDI will not receive funding from the 2004 contract until later this year.

The monies resulting from the Gravity Games contract has traditionally fronted EDI’s operating costs. Racer entry fees cover some basic costs, such as porta-potties, on-site transportation, and EMT services, but are not enough to cover all the costs associated with the events.

As a result of the lack of funding and the increased costs, EDI is unfortunately forced to postpone its race season until we receive funds from our Gravity Games contract.

The tentative dates for the 2004 Gravity Games are scheduled for the end of May. We would like to stress that EDI still plans on holding qualifiers for the 2004 Gravity Games, but are financially unable to do so until we have this funding in place.

Thanks for your understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience. Please keep in mind that this temporary cut in funding has also affected EDI’s staffing. I am no longer in the office on a full time basis, but am happy to reply to emails regarding this postponement.

EDI 2003 Confirmed Event Schedule as of 3-24-03

Hi everyone. Below you will find our two confirmed event dates. Although we initially thought we would be able to host an event in France, we are unable to do it this year. Thanks again to Manu for all his efforts. We may be able to add an event in June to this schedule, but do not have anything confirmed as of yet. We will continue to do our best to not conflict with other events, and appreciate everyone's patience.

EDI 2003 CONFIRMED EVENT SCHEDULE AS OF 3/24/03

EVENT: 3rd Annual MARYHILL MUSEUM DOWNHILL CHALLENGE
DATES: Saturday, July 26th – Sunday 27th
LOCATION: Loops Road Goldendale, Washington
SPECIFICS: Fly into Portland, OR

All athletes are required to carry their own personal medical insurance and sign waivers to compete.
Street Luge and Downhill Skateboarding Disciplines will compete on separate days.
Event Schedules TBA

EVENT: DONNER (YES, DONNER- oh yeah...) DOWNHILL FESTIVAL
DATES: Saturday, August 9th- Sunday, August 10th
LOCATION: Donner Pass Road Truckee, California
SPECIFICS: Fly into Reno, NV or Sacramento, CA if you really want to drive for a while.

All athletes are required to carry their own personal medical insurance and sign waivers to compete.
Street Luge and Downhill Skateboarding Disciplines will compete on separate days.

Hi everyone. I know many of you are looking for info on our 2003 season, Gravity Games, etc. Unfortunately, we won't be able to make an announcement for another week or two. I can confirm that Maryhill is scheduled for the 26th-27th of July. A European race is in the works (thanks again to Manu and No Comply) for the end of May/beginning of June, and we are shooting for early August for a race at Donner Pass. Again, only the Maryhill dates have been confirmed. We will make an announcement regarding our schedule as soon as possible. I apologize for the delay and appreciate everyone's patience.
